Kiona

Kiona Daelyn is a movement artist and teacher who loves to help people find joy, excitement, and freedom through  movement. Kiona grew up dancing from early childhood, but their professional dance journey began in Tucson with Funhouse Movement Theatre and O-T-O Dance (Orts). It was at O-T-O, under the mentorship of Annie Bunker, that Kiona’s love for modern and aerial dance took root. They went on to earn a BFA in Dance Education from University of the Arts in Philadelphia with an emphasis in modern dance. While at UARTS they performed works by Curt Haworth, Silvana Cardell, and Martha Graham, and taught at various studios throughout Philadelphia. In 2009 they became a certified yoga instructor attending 7 Centers Yoga Arts in Sedona under the direction of Ruth (Sraddhasagar) Hartung and Rama Jyoti Vernon. In 2011 Kiona moved to San Diego where they worked for the next 13 years dancing, teaching, and choreographing for various companies including Malashock Dance Company, San Diego Dance Theater, Visionary Dance Theatre, Blythe Barton Dance, Astraeus Aerial Dance Theater, Aerial Revolution Entertainment, Scripps Performing Arts Academy, and the company they founded, Wingbeat Movement Arts. Kiona recently moved back to Tucson where they work as a teaching artist for Opening Minds Through The Arts and spend their free time going on adventures with their wife and two children. They are so excited to be a part of the aerial dance community at ZUZI!
